Standalone, not a companion
RadioShake on Wear OS installs directly from the watch's own Play Store as a separate build, not a remote control that needs the phone app running nearby. Once installed, it has its own browse screen — Top Stations and Genres are visible immediately, with no setup or sign-in step. As long as the watch has its own data connection, it plays stations independently of whether your phone is anywhere near it.
Setup steps
- On the watch, open the Play Store and search for RadioShake. Install the Wear OS build (it appears alongside the phone build).
- Open the app on the watch. The browse screen lists Top Stations and Genres straight away.
- Tap any station to start playback through your watch's audio output.
- Add the RadioShake Tile to your watch face from the Tiles carousel.
Bluetooth audio, or the watch speaker
Watches vary in whether they have a built-in speaker. RadioShake plays through Bluetooth headphones or paired earbuds on any watch, and through the watch's own speaker on models that have one. If your watch has no speaker and nothing is paired, you'll need to pair Bluetooth audio before you hear anything.
Offline caveat
Live radio needs a live connection on the watch, exactly as it does on the phone. RadioShake streams stations over the internet in real time, so the watch needs its own active data connection — Wi-Fi or cellular, depending on the watch model. There is no offline fallback for live stations on Wear OS. The offline podcast downloads feature is part of the phone app; the standalone Wear OS build is focused on live radio browsing and playback.
Tile support
The RadioShake Tile, added from the watch's Tiles carousel, shows the current station, the live ICY track name, and a one-tap play/pause button — the fastest way to control playback without opening the full app.
Frequently asked
Does RadioShake work on Wear OS without a phone nearby?
Yes. RadioShake ships a standalone Wear OS build, not a remote control for the phone app. It installs from the watch's own Play Store and browses and plays stations on its own, as long as the watch has its own data connection.
Do I need Bluetooth headphones to use it on my watch?
Usually, yes. Most watches need paired Bluetooth headphones or earbuds for audio output; playback works through the watch's built-in speaker only on watch models that have one.
Does the Wear OS app work offline?
No, not for live radio. The watch needs its own active data connection — there is no offline fallback for live streams on Wear OS, the same as on the phone.
Is there a watch face Tile?
Yes. The RadioShake Tile shows the current station, the live ICY track name, and a one-tap play/pause button, added from the Tiles carousel.
